2GO Baggage Allowance 2026: Excess and Special Item Rates

2GO Baggage Allowance 2026: Excess and Special Item Rates

The 2GO baggage allowance is 50 kg of free hand baggage for each passenger who paid the full fare, according to 2GO Travel’s baggage policy. Each piece should be no more than 20 inches high and 30 inches wide, and it must fit in your accommodation area without blocking passageways. Items beyond that, or in special categories, carry separate charges.

What the 2GO baggage allowance covers

  • Who gets it: passengers who paid the full fare for the voyage.
  • Weight: up to 50 kg in total.
  • Size: no more than 20 inches high and 30 inches wide per piece.
  • Where it goes: with you, in your accommodation area. It should not obstruct aisles or exits.

Infants traveling on the P500 infant fare have no free baggage allowance, according to 2GO’s travel guide. So, if you are bringing a stroller or baby supplies, count them within an adult’s 50 kg.

Excess charges beyond the 2GO baggage allowance

2GO lists excess charges for baggage from and to Manila port. The amounts depend on the item and on where you are going: Visayas, Mindanao, or interport (shorter inter-island links).

Item Visayas Mindanao Interport
Electronic appliances (per piece) P250 P300 P100
Sports equipment (per piece) P200 P250 P100

Other items have a single rate:

  • Goods in commercial quantity: P30 per kilo.
  • Firearms: P500 per piece, including three extra magazines; each additional magazine is P100.
  • Plants and cut flowers: P75 per piece for items beyond one foot in diameter, up to four feet tall.

An earlier version of this post placed these figures under the wrong column headings. The table above follows 2GO’s own grouping.

Permits for plants, meat, and eggs

Under 2GO’s policy, plants need documents from the Bureau of Plant Industry, and meat or eggs need a permit from the Bureau of Animal Industry. Get these before going to the port, because the terminal cannot issue them.

Pets and the 2GO baggage allowance

Pets are not part of the 2GO baggage allowance. Instead, they travel in cages with their own rates. 2GO says only vessels sailing from or to Manila, except MV 2GO Masigla, accept pets. Its process is:

  1. Book your own ticket.
  2. Prepare a veterinary health certificate, vaccination card, shipping permit or local transport permit, and a signed waiver.
  3. Fill out the Pet Travel Form at the corporate ticketing office at your departure port before the trip.
  4. Be at the port six hours before departure for inspection.
Cage size (L x W x H) Per cage, up to 2 pets or cages per passenger Per cage, up to 3 pets or cages per passenger
Small (20 x 13 x 16 in) 900 2,000
Medium (24 x 17 x 19 in) 1,350 2,450
Large (30 x 18 x 20 in) 1,800 2,900
X-Large (36 x 22 x 25 in) 2,700 3,800
XX-Large (42 x 27 x 30 in) 3,600 4,700
XXX-Large (48 x 29 x 32 in) 4,500 5,600

The rates apply to pets traveling from and to Manila port, in pesos. 2GO’s pet page also lists per-head box-cage rates for fowl: P250 for a fighting cock, P50 for a non-game chicken, and P25 for day-old chicks. In addition, you must bring pet food, any medication, and water for the whole voyage. Because the higher column applies when you bring more pets or cages, families traveling with several animals should compare both rates when budgeting.

Packing tips to stay within the 2GO baggage allowance

  • Weigh your bags at home. A luggage scale avoids surprises at the counter.
  • Pack appliances separately and keep receipts, since they are charged per piece.
  • Bring snacks and water within your allowance, especially on overnight sailings.
  • Keep valuables, medicines, and IDs in a small bag you carry at all times.
  • If you are moving house, ship large boxes through a freight service instead of as passenger baggage.

For general packing ideas, see our Philippines packing list.

Prohibited and restricted items

Baggage passes through inspection at the terminal. Firearms are charged under the rate above and still need the permits required by law. If you are unsure whether an item is allowed, ask 2GO’s customer service at (02) 8528 7000 or travelsupport@2go.com.ph before your trip, rather than risk having it refused at the gate.

Common 2GO baggage allowance mistakes

Many travelers assume the 2GO baggage allowance works like an airline’s, with a checked bag and a separate carry-on. However, 2GO’s allowance is for hand baggage that stays with you. As a result, a single huge box can be a problem even under 50 kg, since it must fit your bunk or room area. Another common mistake is forgetting that an infant on the P500 fare adds no allowance. Finally, some passengers bring a pet to the port without the Pet Travel Form, which must be completed at the corporate ticketing office before the trip.

Balikbayan boxes and sacks

Boxes and sacks of personal items are fine within the 50 kg limit, provided each piece fits the size limit. If the contents look like goods for sale, such as many units of the same product, 2GO may charge the P30-per-kilo commercial rate. So, pack personal items as personal items and keep large shipments for freight.

At the terminal

2GO asks passengers to arrive three to four hours before departure and to check in at least four hours ahead; gates close one hour before departure. Excess charges are settled at the terminal, so allow extra time if you have special items. Our 2GO terminal and boarding guide explains the steps.

Example: a family moving to Mindanao

Suppose two adults and one child sail from Manila to Cagayan de Oro with a TV and a bicycle. Each full-fare passenger, including the child on a child fare, can bring hand baggage within the 50 kg limit, subject to 2GO’s full-fare rule. Under the table above, the TV counts as an electronic appliance at P300 for Mindanao, and the bicycle as sports equipment at P250. Therefore, the family should budget about P550 in special-item charges on top of their fares, plus P30 per kilo for anything in commercial quantity.

Traveling light on short hops

On interport links such as Batangas–Caticlan or Caticlan–Roxas, the voyage is short, and so the special-item rates are lower, at P100 per appliance or piece of sports equipment. Even so, the same 50 kg 2GO baggage allowance and size limits apply. For a beach trip, a backpack and a small duffel are usually enough, which also makes boarding and disembarking faster at busy ports.

How to weigh and pack for your 2GO baggage allowance

The easiest way to avoid excess fees is to weigh your bags at home. So use a luggage scale or a bathroom scale. First, weigh yourself. Next, weigh yourself holding the bag. Then subtract the first number. As a result, you will know your bag’s weight before you reach the terminal.

Packing tips for the 2GO baggage allowance

  • Put heavy items, such as shoes and canned goods, in the bag you will check in.
  • Keep medicine, IDs, chargers, and valuables in a small bag you carry.
  • Use soft bags or boxes with strong tape, so they survive loading.
  • Label each bag with your name and phone number.

2GO baggage allowance for families and balikbayans

Families often travel with boxes of pasalubong. In that case, count the total weight for the whole group. Each passenger has their own 2GO baggage allowance. However, you cannot always combine allowances across people. So ask at the terminal if you are unsure. Also arrive early, because weighing many boxes takes time.

Finally, check the official 2GO site before every trip, since rates and rules can change. For more help, read our 2GO terminal guide.

Quick recap of the 2GO baggage allowance

Pack heavy items in your checked bag and keep valuables with you. Then weigh everything at home, label each bag, and arrive early if you carry boxes. Finally, check special item rates for your region before you leave, since pets, bikes, and large boxes are priced on their own. Doing these steps keeps surprise fees to a minimum.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2GO baggage allowance per person or per booking?

Per full-fare passenger. It cannot be pooled across a booking, so each person should carry their own share.

Do seniors or students get a bigger allowance?

2GO does not list a bigger allowance for them. Its policy ties the 50 kg limit to full-fare passengers, so if you travel on a discounted or promo fare, confirm your allowance with 2GO when you book.

Can I check in bags in a cargo hold?

2GO’s passenger allowance is for hand baggage that you keep in your accommodation. For larger shipments, use 2GO’s freight service.

Does the baggage rule differ on the new routes?

2GO has not announced different rules for its September 2026 portlinks. See our 2GO new routes guide for those sailings, and our 2GO schedule and fare guide for fares.
