Editorial Policy

PinoyTips publishes step-by-step guides for everyday tasks in the Philippines: government services, money and personal finance, technology, lifestyle, and travel and commuting. Readers use these guides to make real decisions, such as which documents to bring, which form to file, or which bus to take. This policy explains who writes the guides, how we put them together, and why we publish them.

Who writes PinoyTips guides

Every guide carries the PinoyTips byline. PinoyTips is the shared pen name of the people who run this site. We use one name because the work is shared: one person may research a guide, and another may check it later or update it when a rule changes. The people behind PinoyTips keep their personal identities private, so we do not publish personal profiles. That is also why we do not claim credentials we cannot show you.

We are not a government agency, bank, law firm, clinic, transport operator, or travel agency. We are not paid by government agencies or transport operators to write about them. You can reach us through our Contact page.

How we make a guide

  1. Start from the reader’s task. Each guide answers one specific job, such as renewing a driver’s license or filing an annual income tax return. We plan the guide around what a reader needs to finish that job: who qualifies, what to prepare, where to go, what it costs, and what can go wrong.
  2. Official sources first. For government services, we use agency websites, citizen’s charters, memorandum circulars, revenue regulations, laws, and official social media pages. For transport, we use the operator’s own website and advisories and regulators such as the LTFRB and MARINA.
  3. Reputable news second. When an official document is not online, we may cite established news organizations such as the Philippine News Agency, and we say so in the guide.
  4. Link the source to the claim. Where a fee, deadline, penalty, or eligibility rule matters, we try to link the specific circular, form, or official page beside it, not just the agency’s homepage.
  5. Add what the official page leaves out. We aim to add something useful beyond the source, such as a worked example, a document checklist, a comparison table, common mistakes, or what to do when a step fails. We label estimates and examples so you can tell them apart from official amounts.
  6. Check before publishing and after changes. We review fees, requirements, deadlines, and links before a guide goes live, and again when an agency or operator announces a change.

Experience and testing

Most PinoyTips guides are research guides built from official documents. We only describe a step as something we did ourselves when that is true. Travel itineraries and route suggestions are planning recommendations unless the guide clearly says otherwise.

Why we publish

Government and transport information in the Philippines is often spread across many pages, PDFs, and social media posts, and it changes often. We publish PinoyTips to help readers find the current rules in one place, understand them, and finish the task without paying a fixer or making a wasted trip. We write for readers who come to us directly, not to fill a word count. A guide is as long as the task needs.

What we will not do

  • We do not invent fees, deadlines, schedules, eligibility rules, credentials, or first-hand experiences.
  • We do not present estimates as official amounts.
  • We do not ask for or handle your personal documents, passwords, or one-time codes.
  • We do not publish press releases or company news unless it changes what a reader needs to do.

Dates and updates

Guides with time-sensitive details include a “Last checked” line that names the sources and the month we checked them. We review fare changes, fuel surcharges, and filing deadlines when a new advisory or circular comes out. When we make a significant change, we update the “Last checked” line. We do not change a date unless we have actually checked the guide again.

Corrections

If you find an error, please tell us through our Contact page. Include the guide’s address and, if possible, a link to the official source. We review every report. When a correction changes a fee, deadline, or eligibility rule, we fix it promptly and note the update in the guide.

Advertising and affiliate links

PinoyTips may show ads and may include affiliate links in some travel guides. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not decide what we write or which sources we use. When a page contains affiliate links, we disclose it on that page. See our Affiliate Disclosure, Disclaimer, and Advertise pages.

Not legal, tax, medical, or financial advice

Our guides explain public rules step by step. They are not legal, tax, medical, or financial advice, and they have not been reviewed by a licensed professional unless a guide says so. For decisions with legal, tax, health, or money consequences, confirm with the agency concerned or a qualified professional.
