The MySSS Card is now the official ID that the Social Security System issues to members, and it replaced the Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID) card that people used to queue for at SSS branches. SSS started accepting applications on 1 October 2025. Unlike the UMID, a partner bank produces the new card. It carries an EMV chip and works as a debit card linked to a savings account. If you are holding an old UMID, it still works. If you never got one, the branch line is no longer where you start.
What changed between UMID and the MySSS Card
For years, an SSS ID meant a biometric capture at a branch and a wait that could stretch for months. The new process is online and runs through two parties. SSS checks your identity, then a bank opens an account and issues the card.
- Who issues it: a partner bank, not SSS. The first partner was RCBC through its DiskarTech app. SSS also listed Asia United Bank, China Bank, and UnionBank as banks set to follow.
- What it does: it serves as your SSS ID and as a debit card, so it can receive benefits, loan proceeds, and other SSS payouts.
- How identity is checked: through the National ID eVerify system and your National ID photo, plus a facial scan.
Because the bank produces the card, the bank also handles delivery or pickup, and its own fees and terms apply.
Are old UMID and SS cards still valid?
Yes. SSS states on its MySSS Card page that all previously issued SSS cards remain valid. You do not have to surrender a working UMID, and nothing forces you to switch.
That said, there are reasons to apply anyway. If you lost or damaged your UMID, the MySSS Card is now the replacement route, since SSS no longer prints UMIDs. It also makes sense if your name or other details changed after SSS printed the UMID. The same goes if you want a disbursement account that SSS recognizes automatically.
Meanwhile, if you enrolled your UMID as an ATM card (the UMID-ATM), keep using it for as long as it works. SSS pages on sickness and retirement claims still list the UMID-ATM as one of the disbursement options.
Who can apply for a MySSS Card
SSS opened the card to members, pensioners, individual claimants, beneficiaries, and representative payees, as long as they meet three conditions:
- A permanent SS number. A temporary number from an incomplete registration will not work, so finish your SS number registration first.
- An active My.SSS account with an updated local address, mobile number, and email address.
- Registration in the National ID system (PhilSys) with the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Most people get stuck on the third condition. The MySSS Card process includes the National ID photo and eVerify check, so you cannot skip PhilSys. If you have not registered yet, read our PhilSys National ID registration guide first. Make sure the name in My.SSS matches your National ID letter for letter, including the middle name.
How to apply for the MySSS Card online
The application has two stages. The first happens in the My.SSS member portal:
- Log in to My.SSS and open Services, then MySSS Card.
- Review your personal details. If anything is outdated, update it before going further.
- Consent to SSS verifying your identity with National ID eVerify and using your National ID photo.
- Complete the facial scan.
- Choose your partner bank, then agree to the data-sharing terms between SSS and the bank.
- Wait for the confirmation message. SSS also sends an email and a My.SSS inbox notice.
The second stage happens with the bank. Depending on the bank, you either open the account in its app or visit a branch. You then complete the bank’s own verification and pay any card fee it charges. If you do not pay within the bank’s timeframe, SSS warns that the bank cancels the application.
Delivery times and card fees
According to SSS, the bank releases the card within 15 working days after your account is opened if you are in Metro Manila, and within 20 working days elsewhere. The bank notifies you by SMS or in its app when the card is ready for pickup or delivery.
As for cost, SSS does not set one price. Its FAQ says the chosen bank might charge a card fee and that other charges follow the bank’s terms and conditions. Therefore, read the fee disclosure inside the bank app before you confirm, and compare banks if more than one is offered to you. We do not quote a peso figure here because it depends on the bank and can change.
What the MySSS Card does to your SSS payouts
Once your MySSS Card account is active, SSS automatically sets it as your main disbursement account. Any other bank account or e-wallet you enrolled earlier in the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module (DAEM) stays on file but will no longer receive SSS benefits.
This matters if you are waiting for a claim. Take a member who filed a maternity or sickness claim while the old bank account was still enrolled. Once the bank approves the card, that member should check which account will get the payout. If the card account is later closed, SSS lets you choose one of your previously enrolled accounts again or enroll a new one.
For claim-specific steps, see our guides on the SSS maternity benefit and the SSS retirement pension.
Switching banks or replacing a lost card
You can hold only one MySSS Card with one bank at a time. To move to a different partner bank, you first close the existing MySSS Card account with the current bank. The bank then tells SSS to deactivate the card, and only after that can you apply with another bank. SSS says the same procedure applies to people holding the older SSS UMID Pay Card.
For a lost or stolen card, call the bank’s hotline first so it can block the debit function, because the card is linked to real money. Then follow the bank’s replacement process. Since your SSS membership record does not change, there is no need to file anything new with SSS unless your personal details also changed.
Common reasons a MySSS Card application stalls
- Temporary SS number. The system needs a permanent number, so complete the registration with your birth certificate or other proof first.
- No National ID record or a name mismatch. eVerify compares your My.SSS profile with PhilSys data, so a missing middle name or a married surname on only one record will block the match.
- Facial scan problems. Use even light, remove glasses if they reflect, and keep the phone at eye level.
- Unpaid bank fee. The bank cancels applications if you do not pay within its deadline.
- Old mobile number. OTPs from SSS and the bank go to the number on file, so update it before you start.
Using the card day to day
Because the MySSS Card is a real debit card, treat it like one. You can use it for withdrawals and transfers under the issuing bank’s rules, and SSS benefits land in the linked account automatically. Consequently, the PIN, app login, and OTP number deserve the same care as any bank account. Never send a photo of both sides of the card to anyone, including people who claim to be SSS staff.
Keep at least a small balance if the bank requires a maintaining balance or charges dormancy fees. Those rules come from the bank, not SSS, and appear in the account terms you accept during onboarding. If you only want the card as an ID, ask the bank whether the account can sit idle without charges before you choose it.
Pensioners, beneficiaries, and representatives
SSS made the card available not only to working members but also to pensioners, beneficiaries, and representative payees. For pensioners, the main benefit is that the monthly pension goes straight to the card account, without a separate disbursement enrollment.
However, the online process assumes the applicant can log in to My.SSS, pass a facial scan, and complete bank onboarding on a phone. Older pensioners who are not comfortable with apps may need a family member to sit with them. However, the pensioner must still do the scan and give consent personally. If that is not possible, call the SSS hotline and ask what alternative applies, rather than letting someone else apply under the pensioner’s account.
MySSS Card FAQ
Can I get the card without opening a bank account? No. SSS states that only partner banks issue the card.
Do OFWs and pensioners qualify? SSS lists pensioners among eligible applicants. OFWs who meet the three conditions can apply online, but a bank’s onboarding may need a Philippine mobile number or a branch visit, so check the bank’s requirements.
Is the card accepted as a valid ID? It is SSS’s official functional ID. Each institution decides which IDs it accepts, so for a bank or embassy appointment, bring a second ID as backup. Our valid government IDs guide explains how primary and secondary IDs work.
Where can I ask SSS directly? The SSS hotline is 1455, and the email listed on the MySSS Card page is usssaptayo@sss.gov.ph.
