We are sharing here the OWWA Programs and Services (Social Benefits).

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) was established in 1977 and was formerly known as Welfare and Training Fund for overseas workers.

A connected agency of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and membership institution defends and boosts the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents.

Currently, OWWA has 31 offices in 27 countries worldwide and regional offices in the country.

An OWWA membership is an OFW right and responsibility for themselves and their family.

The following are the OWWA Programs and Benefits

OWWA Programs and Services (Social Benefits)


These are benefits for active OWWA members during their contract, per contractual basis for a maximum of 2 years per contract.

Types of Social Benefits

Disability and Dismemberment Benefit


  • Php100000.00 is the compensation amount for the injuries sustained due to injuries while working abroad.
Social Benefit Requirement
  • Medical Certificate (Foreign)
  • Medical certificate issued by the local attending doctor with a medical examination procedure (e.g., X-ray, MRI, CT Scan)
  • Accident Report/Master’s Report for sea-based OFW
 Death and Burial Benefits
  •  Natural Cause-Php100, 000.00
  • Accidental Cause-Php200, 00.00

Php20 000.00  death benefit for funeral expenses is given to the beneficiaries on top of the death benefit.


  • Original Copy of Death Certificate (issued by the Local Civil Registrar or an Authenticated by the PSA
  • For OFW’s who died abroad
    • Foreign Death Certificate
    • Airway Bill
    • Consular Mortuary Certificate or
    • No Objection Certificate
  • Accident Report (for death due to accident)
  • Burial permit
  • Official receipt of funeral expenses
  •  Claimant’s two valid IDs and 1 PC ID picture
  • OFW Certificate of no marriage (CENOMAR) from PSA
  • Submit any of the following documents certified by the local civil registrar (LCR) or Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA):  
    • Marriage certificate (for spouse claimant)
    • Birth certificate of OFW (father or mother claimant)
    • Child medical certificate (if the child is the claimant)
    • Deceased death certificate
  • Affidavit of Undertaking executed by the claimant (Police report if death is due to an accident)
Supplemental Medical Assistance for OFWs (Medplus)
  • Financial Assistance is provided to active OWWA and Philhealth OFW members affected by dreaded illness and hospitalized, whether at the job sites or in the Philippines.
  • This financial Assistance is equal to the PhilHealth privileges under its case rate system but not beyond Php50, 000.00 per member.


  • Duly accomplished MEDplus application form;
  • Copy of PhilHealth Benefit Payment Notice (BPN*);
  • One (1) copy of a passport-size picture;
  • Proof of OWWA membership contribution (OWWA Official Receipt., OFW membership record)
  • A SPA or a notarized Special Power of Attorney (SPA) executed by the OFW (if the OFW is abroad and filer-claimant is the next-of-kin (NOK)).
  • For deceased OFW, a PSA authenticated death certificate of the deceased OFW and marriage contract or birth certificate of Next Of Kin-claimant.

BPN or Benefit Payment Notice is a report of actual payments made by PhilHealth concerning one’s confinement or availment.

Welfare Assistance Program (WAP)

The welfare assistance program or WAP is given to active or non-active OWWA members/families that are not eligible under any OWWA existing Social Benefit Programs and Services.


    • Calamity Assistance for OWWA members and their families affected by natural or human-induced calamities/disasters
    • Bereavement Assistance is Given to the families of deceased OWWA members.
    • Medical Assistance For sick OWWA members whose illnesses are not covered under MEDplus.
    • Those whose injuries are due to accidents/crimes.
    • Relief assistance for displaced/laid-off en masse OWWA members due to economic/political/health situations.
